03 · Long bioEnglish · extended

Aikonaut is a Belgian artistic music project developed by Bjorn Claes. It approaches an album as a point of departure rather than a finished container: a release may continue into a dedicated website, a visual series, a book, moving image or another connected format.

The catalogue moves between electronic music, post-punk, soundtrack, hard dance, spoken word and deliberately unstable hybrids. Its coherence does not come from a fixed genre. Instead, different works return to related tensions: the individual and the system, identity and disappearance, ritual and technology, control and surrender, language and strategic silence.

Generative AI participates in composition, production and visual development. Within Aikonaut, that technology is neither hidden nor celebrated as an automatic source of novelty. It is one of the materials through which the work is made — and frequently one of the systems the work regards with suspicion.

Recent projects demonstrate the range of that approach. Dees Ploat Blèft Spele turns Antwerp dialect, fairground debris and social irritation into a ten-track local world. Jump Rite turns Belgian jumpstyle into a machine liturgy. Welkom in de Nulnaam stages an inverted initiation around name, self and measurement. All Remaining Birds files nature as an administrative object. Tacituri combines a literary story, soundtrack, voice-over writing and visual archive around responsibility and omission. AIKONAUT II revisits the 2024 debut as a set of remade rather than remastered works, asking what survives when a voice is reconstructed.

Streaming services currently identify the performing artist as Bjorn Claes. Aikonaut is the connected project identity under which the catalogue and its wider artistic environments are developed.
